Since it’s a big no-no to get the cards dirty or sticky, you have to find foods in which you do not touch the food. Even though you would think that something like a sandwich is okay, you are going to get some residue from the bread, and maybe the contents, on the cards. I think the foods that you can eat with a spoon or fork and eaten out of a cup is best. A cup doesn’t take up a lot of room on the table. Food eaten with toothpicks are ideal too. You are dealing with small, easy to eat foods that you can just pop in your mouth.
Here are some food suggestions that you can try out as you host poker food parties at your house. Along with that, you can also organize fun poker games with the help of gemparqq for your guests to make your poker night a success.
If people are going to be playing for long periods, make hearty soups with meat, beans and noodles or rice, so it will fill you up. Don’t use long noodles or they may splatter over everything. Use something like elbow or bow tie pasta, anything small and compact. A couple of nice hearty soups that are easy to eat are Italian wedding soup and minestrone. The Italian Wedding soup has the tiny meatballs, Arancini De Pepe noodles and spinach and the minestrone has vegetables, beans, and noodles to fill you up.
You can throw together just about any vegetable and any type of meat you have in the fridge. Just cut up everything in small pieces to make it easier to eat.
Chili: You can make all kinds of chili, with beef, chicken, turkey, tofu, vegetarian, with or without beans, with or without macaroni.
Great and tasty meal. If you haven’t tried Patti LaBelle’s recipe for mac cheese, you haven’t lived. She uses 5 different kinds of cheeses. You can find her recipe on the internet, just look for Patti LaBelle’s Over-The-Rainbow Macaroni and Cheese.
Good foods you can spear with a toothpick and eat are:
Cubes of cheese or lunch meat, or slices of cheese and lunch meats rolled together and cut in bite-size pieces. You can also put a cocktail onion, olive or small slice of pickle on the toothpick with the lunch meat.
You can make plain or wrap bacon around them, or with different sauces: Tomato sauce, teriyaki, BBQ, sweet-sour, lemon caper,…

You can use just about any type of sausages sliced in bite-size pieces: hot dogs, polish sausage, Italian pork sausages, andouille, bangers, pepperoni, Vienna sausage, chorizo, bratwurst, knackwurst, turkey sausages. If you look in the meat section of your local grocery store, you will be surprised at the variety of sausages and flavors. Wikipedia mentions dozens of varieties of sausages from around the world. They state that in the UK alone, there are 470 varieties of sausages. You can fry, bake or grill them or cook them in a sauce. Frying may be the best way. It will probably keep the sausage inside the casing. It might be fun to have a platter of several types of sausages. You can go to www.pillsbury.com for lots of great recipes.
Eggrolls or spring rolls:
Just cut them up in bit size pieces. You can pour a little duck sauce over them before serving.
You can make tiny appetizers out of refrigerated rolls, biscuits or croissants. The nice thing about using them is you can cut them into any size you want before baking. You can fill them with just about any kind of meat: hot dogs, little beef smokie sausages, ground beef, pork, chicken, turkey, pepperoni, seafood, sun-dried tomato goat cheese, different cheeses, pizza sauce, etc. or you can just roll them with different herbs. Dates stuffed with goat cheese:
A little something out of the ordinary. I had it at a party, it was very good. You can also wrap them in prosciutto. Make chorizo-stuffed dates.
Pieces of fruit:
Make them small and bite-size. Apples, melons, grapes, berries, banana’s, pineapple,…whatever is in season.
My favorite recipe website is .www.epicurious.com. It’s the website for Gourmet and Bon Appetit Magazines. They have hundreds, if not thousands of recipes for soups, stews, chilis, and appetizers. You should be able to find some great recipes for poker night. I like all the wonderful recipes, and the great ways you can search for recipes: low carb, low fat, low calorie, by ingredients, etc, But, I love that people that have tried the recipes can rate them and offer comments. They rate the recipes from one to four “forks”. I don’t waste my time, I just look for the recipes with four forks. I made curried hard-boiled eggs for a party last week. Several people suggested a couple of other ingredients make the recipe even better. I used their suggestions and there was nothing left on the platter before the party was even over. This was you can try recipes that other people have tried and served before, and see what comments they made. They generally will mention how well the dish was received by family and friends. You can subscribe to their emails and they will send you new recipes. You can make the recipes printer friendly, even 3X5 or 5X7 card six, so you can put them in your file box. If you don’t have a printer, the website allows you to set up ‘my file box’ and you can save your favorite recipes there.
I hope I was able to give you some ideas for poker night. I love poker myself and play any chance I get, I understand what types of foods are good choices… You can make it as simple as you want, or as elaborate as you want, just make it easy to eat. Have fun, eat well and win big !!
